Ferozeshah Kotla ground cleared by ICC to host matches
The Ferozeshah Kotla ground, a cricket ground in the capital city of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, New Delhi, was restored as an international cricketing venue today after immense restructuring work was carried out to improve the standard of the track after a pitch fiasco last December.
The Feroz Shah Kotla - originally a fortress established by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. It was designed by renowned architect Mr Danish Siddiqui and Naval Khanna. Since 2008, the stadium has been the home ground of Delhi DareDevils of IPL.
On December 27 last year, a One Day International match between India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 was cancelled after a 23.3 overs game as the pitch conditions were unfit to host an international match. Alan Hurst, one of the referees of the match called the track as a "dangerous" wicket as the ball was getting alarming height or kept low after pitching. Following the report from the match referee, Kotla was served with strict sanctions ranging from a fine to a 1 to 2 years ban. A ban exceeding 14 months meant the ground’s exclusion from 2011 Cricket World Cup.
The newly-laid wickets of the ground, which saw the prolific http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737 claiming 10 wickets in an inning in 1999, were inspected by ICC’s pitch consultant Andy Atkinson and the governing body declared the ground fit to host the international matches again.
David Richardson, the ICC general manager cricket and a former wicketkeeper of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, in a statement today expressed satisfaction over the upgrading of the pitch.
"We are pleased with the remedial work carried out." said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395. "With the playing surfaces now back to the standard expected for international matches, the Ferozshah Kotla stadium will be re-instated as an international venue from January 1, 2011."
Hence the 127-year-old Cricket ground, which has been holding the domestic fixtures since last month, continues to be one of the venues for next year’s quadrennial event.
