Ferrari, Force India, Caterham and McLaren unveil their challengers for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari, Force India, Caterham and McLaren have all unveiled their cars for 2012 season.
Ferrari has made quite a few changes to its 2012 edition. The car features a stepped nose which was earlier seen on Caterham car as well. The sidepods look heavily sculpted.
As described by Fernando Alonso earlier the Ferrari looks very aggressive in its design although not so easy on the eyes.
“It really looks very aggressive,” Massa said. “This is something that was part of my dreams ... I really trust the team and the new car.”
McLaren although came out with an evolution of the MP4-26 but have quite a few changes on the new edition. The one thing that strikes at first glance is that they have not gone with a stepped nose and a heavy front wing.
Caterham have been very confident over their design and speculated that a lot of teams are going to have a similar stepped nose.
Force India car VJM05 also has the stepped nose similar to Ferrari and Caterham. It also features  the strong sidepods much like the Ferrari. Force India look confident of their design and hope for better results in the 2012 season.
“That's the big aim this year, to come fifth as a constructor,” di Resta told Sky Sports News. “But to achieve that you're going to be overtaking a car manufacturer, which is a big thing in Formula One and a world championship (winning) team at that.”
There are still quite a few teams left to unveil their cars including the much-awaited Red Bull. The designs so far look very different from the previous years and it will be interesting how they fare on the track.
The cars will be showcasing their pace on the first pre-season test scheduled to be on February 7, 2012. The tests are going to give a good idea of where all the team’s cars stand against each other.
The season is going to begin with the Australian Grand Prix on March 18, 2012.
