Ferrari's Fernando Alonso: I'm not racing in Formula 1 to make friends
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso recently stated that he is very happy with his team and he is not racing to become popular. The Spaniard won two Formula 1 World Championships in 2005 and 2006 with Team Renault. After that, Fernando joined Team McLaren in 2007
but unfortunately, things did not work out between him and the team and as a result, he had to leave the team and rejoin Renault.
After driving for Renault for 2 years again, Fernando finally got the opportunity of joining Ferrari after the team released the 2007 Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen in 2010. Since then, Fernando has only one thing on his mind and that is the world
title.
“I'm not racing to make friends but to achieve many titles. Let's see if I win enough to be remembered. If not, I will also retire very happy, proud of the experience,” Alonso told the media.
Fernando is going to begin his second season with Ferrari in 2011 and he stated that he “expected a team of legend and magic and it has been a pleasant surprise, even better than I expected”.
He added that he is not in a hurry to leave the team and he enjoys racing for them even if he does not win. However, reports suggested that Fernando does not enjoy Formula 1 completely as it is not a pure sport since it is reliant on technology as well.
Formula 1 is a sport which requires a combination of good machinery along with good driving abilities. If a good driver is not provided with a promising car, then he cannot score good results and as a result, his driving abilities somewhat get undermined.
That is one of the reasons why Fernando does not believe that Formula 1 is an “overall sport”.
“It's not just racing; F1 is also very much business and with other interests. It's not a competition, pure and simple. Cars are not equal, the rules are not equal for all. But we know this and accept it because this is perhaps some of the charm of Formula
One,” he said.
Nevertheless, Alonso is one of those drivers in Formula 1 who have experienced it all. The Spaniard used to drive for Renault when the team was in its initial stages and was not reliable. From McLaren to Ferrari, Fernando has driven for all types of teams.
That is the reason why people call him the most versatile driver in Formula 1 as he makes the best of every situation.
It is believed that the Spaniard is going to be one of the top running competitors for the 2011 titles and it is going to be interesting to see how his team performs in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
