Ferrari's driver Felipe Massa hopes a ‘successful’ Turkish race: Formula 1 News
Ferrari's driver Felipe Massa said that after introducing new upgrades in '150 Italia' cars, he can hope of a 'successful' Turkish race, which will take place in Istanbul Park Circuit, on May 8.
Massa further added that it is still hard to predict that how useful these new components will perform, which include the new front, rear wings and modified brake ducts at the Turkish race weekend.
The Italian team had a tough start in 2011 season. However, the squad has added these new components with a hope of closing the gap between Ferrari and other contenders.
The Brazilian driver said that due to these features, the car will display a good run in the race, as new upgrade always bring some changes in car’s performance.
Ferrari had a good performance in races compared to qualifying rounds. However, the team is hoping that they can compete with Red Bull Racing team. Massa added that other than Ferrari, other teams are also busy working hard to improve their cars' pace
for the remaining races of the season.
A three-time winner in Turkey has discussed his previous year’s performance. He said, “I had good years, great cars, fighting and winning from the beginning, but we had some difficult years like 2009. It is also clear that we never give up but the
difference is also quite big so we need to have our feet on the ground and to work to improve the car and I would say more in qualifying.”
The 30-year-old driver went on to add, "In the race we showed we had a much more competitive car compared to qualifying and looking at how many points Sebastian has and the team has, it is important for sure to have a good step and to be very close
to fight."
He further added that it is always difficult to say ‘exactly’ about the new features and that how are these going to be in effective in the races. Moreover, all the teams have taken a bigger step to their success than the others but everyone will have
to wait and see what will happen at the end of the season.
Massa has tested these new components of 150 Italia machine during a ‘filming day,’ last week. After testing upgrades in a simulator, he said, "After so many hours in the simulator it was nice to have a break and enjoy myself on track."
On the other hand, Ferrari’s President, Luca di Montezemolo, told the media that Turkish race will be very ‘important’ for the team, as they aim to get their podium position at the race weekend.
The competition among the rivals has become even tougher, as the season is going towards the most challenging grids of 2011 year’s race calendar.
