Ferrari's driver Fernando Alonso ready for the title fight: Formula 1 News
After the third-podium finish in Turkey race, Ferrari's driver, Fernando Alonso wants to fight for his 2011 year’s title. Alonso said, he is sure that he will be able to stay in this season’s championship fight, if Ferrari can continue to perform like it
did in Istanbul.
After his recent race, Alonso is hopeful that he can put more improving results on the grid. However, he is looking forward to his more successful races in the remaining season.
He said, “You know I like playing with numbers - and as I travelled backwards and forwards between home, Maranello and Turkey, I made a comparison between my first four races of last year and those of this year in the corresponding grands prix.”
He went on to add, “Today we still have 15 grands prix to come. This shows that you can look at the same thing in two different, even completely opposite ways. What matters are results and we've started to make the podium: we must do that regularly and if
so I'm convinced that we will again be able to fight for the title.”
The 29-year-old driver mentioned that his Turkish race podium was a ‘morale boost’ for the Maranello-based outfit. However, the team cannot be happy only with a third place, however he must keep pushing to be able to win further races of the season.
The team had a disappointing start in ongoing season, as the ‘150 Italia’ car was not supportive over the first three races, held in Australia, Malaysia and China, respectively.
However, at this moment the podium place was very important for the morale of Ferrari team. He admitted that they were all bit unhappy with a start of the season, as the initial races could not live up to their expectations.
Alonso also discussed the next races and said that his team certainly cannot be happy with its current race condition. However, the drivers have to do much better in the further races. Along with it, Ferrari has to be more competitive in qualifying round,
because, if they start the race at third podium on the grid, then it will be easy for the drivers to win the race.
The two-time world champion informed that the team will introduce new parts in Barcelona that will allow the drivers to take them another step forward to their success in the qualifying round.
On the other hand, his team-mate Felipe Massa praised the good performance of Alonso. Despite of its poor result in race, he was happy with his team’s progress.
Let's see how Ferrari performs in the next race of this season, will take place on May 22, at Circuit de Catalunya track, in Spain.
