Ferrari Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa believes Red Bull is fastest once again
The Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa believes that Red Bull’s new car, the RB7 will be the quickest on the track, once again, during the 2011 Formula 1 season. Although he expressed contentment over his new car believing that the red team will be definitely
among the front runners, yet he fears to face a tough competition from the Red Bull Racing team.
While talking to the media, the Brazilian stated, "The Red Bull is definitely very quick and that's a fact. Today [Monday], we did a good lap time and I think we are not off the pace: however, yesterday [Sunday] Rosberg was quick for example and you definitely
cannot rule out McLaren and some other teams.”
The Austrian team was successful in bagging both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship last season. They dominated the 2010 tracks all through the season with their fast drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel in the RB6 car. This year,
the team has been successful in producing the best car, as everyone in the sport expects to see another great season ahead for the team.
Some on the grid, like the 2009 champion, Jenson Button believe Ferrari will be the most competitive car on the track. Massa finished the final day of the Barcelona test with the best lap time of the week. The first two days of the test saw the reigning
world champion Vettel dominate the time sheets.
While talking to the media, Massa explained that he and his team-mate and two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso have undergone a lot of pre-season preparations. He added that they have completed ‘real and genuine race simulation’ and have also practiced
with all the different Pirelli tyres with various fuel levels.
While commenting on the new Pirelli tyres, the Ferrari driver said, "It's easy to predict there will be more pit stops compared to recent years. Degradation is higher and it's definitely not easy to look after the tyres. From what we have seen so far, it
means the race strategies could be very different to previous seasons."
However, when the 29-year-old was asked by reporters where his team stood as compared to the others, he refrained from making any predictions. Massa stated that unless the first race begins and all the teams are out on the track nothing could be known for
certain.
As the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix has been postponed, Australia will hold the first race of the upcoming season. It will be exciting to see how the teams will adapt their preparations and relative strategies for the change in venue. With the season
right around the corner, the fans are anticipating an exhilarating start to the season.
