Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo calls for improvement for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has called upon his team to give a much-improved performance in 2012 to make up for the disappointing season they had in 2011.
Ferrari although was able to secure a third place finish in the constructors’ championship thanks to Fernando Alonso. Even with a less competitive Ferrari car he kept on performing well and with only one win to show for it took his team to a third place
finish.
While his teammate Felipe Massa had his share of issues during the 2011, and di Montezemolo made special mention of him, saying that he is a good driver and he has faith in him to perform much better in 2012. Although he had earlier give a warning to the
Brazilian driver that if he is not able to show the results in 2012 he might not be able to retain a race seat with Ferrari.
“Work is going on in all areas to improve: from the design of the new car, to the simulation work, from preparing for the pit stops, to the starts and so on,” he said.
“We cannot be happy with the way this year went and there is a great desire to redeem ourselves, because results don't come on their own, they are not delivered by a stork: it will take hard work from every one of you, it will come from the ability to be
perfect, to start from pole position and that ability is the strength of this company,” he further added.
Montezemolo gave his speech at the Ferrari’s Christmas Lunch and was welcomed with a standing ovation in celebration of his 20th year as Ferrari president.
He was confident of a strong display from his team and said that they need to improve and learn from the mistakes they made in 2011. He went on to add that Ferrari are working on the 2012 car and hope for much improved results. First step is for the car
to pass the crash test and then the team is all set for an exciting start to the 2012 season.
