Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo reveals launch date of 2012 car – Formula 1 news
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has revealed that Ferrari will launch its 2012 car on February 3, 2012.
Montezemolo also revealed that Ferrari’s engine development department has already successfully made the fusion of 6-cylinder turbo engines that are going to be used in 2014. It shows the positive way forward of the team and their effort to stay on top of
things.
Montezemolo has been very vocal for a better performance from the Ferrari team in the 2012 season. He had earlier mentioned that Ferrari needs to improve a lot to become the same force it once was. The previous couple of years have not been the best of seasons
for the Scarlet team.
Although Ferrari came in third on the Constructors’ Championship standing courtesy Fernando Alonso who drove with a big heart in a car that was nowhere near as competitive as the season leaders Red Bull and McLaren.
Montezemolo made special note of Alonso’s performance but conceded that Massa will have to pick up his game in order to retain his seat beyond 2012. That shows how much the Ferrari camp is intent on a good showing. Earlier Alonso also spoke of the confident
air around the Ferrari team camp and said that he believes that they are going to be very competitive in the 2012 season.
The Ferrari president earlier blamed the FIA over its bizarre reaction to the off-throttle blown diffuser issue and said their decision or more appropriately, their indecision cost Ferrari to lose pace and hence a better showing in the season.
Ferrari camp has said earlier that the 2012 version of their car will be entirely different from its predecessor and that they have looked to take more risks in order to make a car that will be much faster and stronger on the grid.
Alonso admitted that they have been inspired by the dominance that Red Bull showed during the 2011 season and are looking to emulate or even better that showing.
Montezemolo while talking to Sky Sports News expressed that the team is desperate of an improved showing in 2012.
“I was extremely unhappy with what happened last season,” he said. “For us the main goal is, again, to be competitive and I have a lot of confidence in my people and their capability to react.”
