Ferrari adamant to beat Red Bull’s pace this season
Ferrari is putting in all the efforts it can to beat Red Bull’s car in the 2011 Formula One season. The team has completely revamped its aerodynamics department and has also come up with an upgraded wind tunnel for the 2011 season.
Ferrari faced a very disappointing ending last year, despite all the hard work they put in towards the end of the season. After having won the first race, the team embraced a lulled mid season. It was only after the controversial race win at the German Grand
Prix that the Italian squad returned to the tug of the title. The Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso, after having bagged the second victory of the season made his way from the initial fifth place in the drivers’ charts to the top of the tally very swiftly. However,
at the last race of the season, a poor race strategy cost him the third championship of his career.
Although, the Italian squad admitted that the poorly tailored race plan, for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, was a big reason for its loss, but at the same time the fact remains there that the team also lacked pace at some of the rounds. During all the initial
races of 2010, the red cars kept following the forerunners Red Bull and McLaren. Even after the mid season, the team’s car was only the second fastest on the track, Red Bull’s RB6 being the fastest.
Looking back at the struggles of last year, the team management vowed to enter the next season with great pace and form right from the very first race. Alonso expressed his views in an interview earlier this week and admitted that due to a late beginning,
the title fight became tougher for them.
However, Ferrari’s chief designer, Nikolas Tombazis believes that the team has improved the car’s downforce this time which was the biggest advantage of the championship winner Red Bull Racing, last year. He explained saying, "Mainly in the area of aerodynamics
our car was not as good as the Red Bull. That's why we have restructured the aerodynamics department, upgraded our wind tunnel and launched an ambitious development programme. And of course we are looking to have new and innovative components."
