Ferrari adamant to stay at the top in 2011
The Italian squad, Ferrari is adamant to return to next year’s grid with a new force and strategy. The team aims to get into the fight right from the start of the season instead of bouncing back into the tug for the title after
a lulled mid-season.
This year has seen the team having a lulled period till the middle of the year. Until the much controversial 1-2 finish at the German Grand Prix, the red uniformed team was seen nowhere in the war. The tug was tightly knit between
the Austrian team, Red Bull Racing and the British squad McLaren. However, as Alonso bagged his second win of the season, there was no stopping Ferrari or its driver. Very efficiently and very vigilantly, the two times World Champion made his way from the
initial fifth place in the charts to the top of the tally.
Anyhow, the team that lost the championship only in the last round, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix now believes that it is essential that they lead the points’ tally staying in the fore-front right from the very beginning of the upcoming
season, instead of striving hard later to regain the lost ground while the other teams only attempt to strengthen their positions.
In 2010, the team although gave a good start at the season opener, the Bahrain Grand Prix, but was not able to maintain the pace of the car in the following races. On the contrary, teams like Red Bull and McLaren quickly developed
their cars and gained a huge advantage over the Italian squad, during the few early races.
However, the Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo believes that although the team had not been able to lay its hands on the championship, the season has taught them some valuable lessons that are going to help Ferrari in the
years to come. As the team now tailors its strategy for the next season, the Italian revealed his aspirations and fears saying, "We are well aware of what we must now do in preparation for next year. Immediately, from the very first race, we have to have a
car capable of winning: these are critical weeks, in which so much is in the balance and so it needs determination, creativity, a desire to innovate, for everyone to improve in their own jobs so that they set their own personal pole positions."
Echoing Montezemolo’s thoughts the Ferrari Team boss, Stefano Domenicali stated that the next year is going to offer an even tougher bid for the title. It is believed that the rival teams will be very competitive next year and
also the new FIA rules are going to bring forth far more intensive competition among the top teams.
In such a situation, Domenicali believes that the team could not afford to let itself lay back even in a single race. While talking to the media earlier this month he said, "We know that in 2011 we will have to start off immediately
with a car capable of winning, so that we are not always having to catch up, as was the case this year."
Recalling the 2010 season he stated, “A brilliant start in Bahrain, which made it seem we could win a lot, a big disappointment in the run up to the mid-point of the season, when our car could not match the pace of the best; great
satisfaction in a fight back that took us into the lead going into the final race. We know how it ended and there is no point in denying it was very disappointing.”
However, he vowed that the next season is going to see Ferrari in high form from the first to the very last race of 2011.
