Ferrari aim for podium in the 2013 Australian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they are aiming to secure a podium finish in the 2013 Australian Grand Prix which will be held at Albert Park in Melbourne on March 17.
Domenicali said that they have full confidence in their new car and they are looking forward to fight for the championship until the very end of this season. Furthermore, he expressed that they can set a good benchmark for the remaining season by securing
a podium in the season opener.
“Unless someone else has done an exceptional job I'm convinced that Ferrari will be in the battle to the end,” Domenicali said. “A podium in Australia would be a good base on which to build the kind of successes we need.”
It will be important to mention that the Italian squad faced immense difficulties during the pre-season testing programme in 2012 in which they failed to make the necessary developments in their car. Additionally, their technical director, Pat Fry even ruled-out
the possibility of a podium finish in the last year’s Australian GP.
Nevertheless, they have shown some remarkable pace during this year’s pre-season testing and every team member is feeling optimistic about F138. Besides, Domenicali has said that they are very much satisfied with their wind tunnel operations. He also said
that they have full faith in the aerodynamics of their new car.
“Apart from the actual performance of the car, our work in the wind tunnel is an element that gives us faith in the area of aerodynamics,” he said.
In addition, he said that there are no dramatic changes in the rules and regulations by FIA in this season as compared to the last one. Therefore, they have been able to make some significant developments in their car over the winter testing.
“The stability of the rules is another guarantee that there won't be surprises with any exceptional creative solutions that make a big difference, and I'm especially confident given the changes we made last year,” he added.
Moreover, he said that some radical changes are going to take place in 2014. So, they are also working on their 2014 car in order to compete well with their rivals.
