Ferrari aim for pole in 2012 European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they are aiming to secure pole position in 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 10.
“We have developments for Valencia. Our main goal is to achieve pole position and we are not far away. The important thing is to keep improving the car, as we will not be happy until we are on pole,” he said.
Although, their driver, Fernando Alonso seemed strong in the Canadian GP as he maintained the lead for quite a long time after setting off from 3rd grid position. However, his gamble of relying on one pit stop strategy did not prove out to be successful
and he came 5th in the race after losing his position during the ending laps.
Nevertheless, the Spaniard said that he is not feeling disappointed with his performance in the last race and expressed that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming races.
At present, he is at second place in the drivers’ championship with 86 points. Additionally, he is 2 points behind the leading driver, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and just 1 point ahead of the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
In addition, it will be important to mention that despite facing difficulties during the start of this season with the setup of F2012, the Spaniard has been successful in limiting the damage for his team.
On the other hand, his teammate, Felipe Massa who had a struggling start this year, is presently at 14th place in the drivers’ rankings with 11 points. Besides, he is ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India and behind Bruno Senna of Williams with 4 points.
The Scarlet team is currently standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 97 points. Furthermore, they are 28 points ahead of Mercedes and 11 points behind Lotus.
Over and above, they are trying their best to make the essential preparations and the substantial advancements so as to improve the pace of their car in order to fight for this year’s championship title.
