Ferrari aim to improve their qualifying pace in the first half of 2013 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry has said that they are working really hard to improve their qualifying pace in the first half of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The Scarlet team struggled a lot during the start of 2012 as they failed to create thorough understanding about their car during the pre-season testing programme.
In addition, Fry also ruled out the possibility of a podium finish in the first race of the preceding season and expected to face few difficulties during the start.
Nonetheless, the Italian squad enjoyed a very successful pre-season testing programme in this year and their drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa performed
convincingly well in the Australian Grand Prix.
Besides, Massa and Alonso secured impressive second and third grid slots in the second round at Sepang International Circuit. However, Fry has said that they still
need to enhance their qualifying pace for which they are working very hard.
“We've shown reasonable race pace and on all tyre types we have used so far we have performed well, however we still have a way to go to be quickest in qualifying
and we are working very hard on that at the moment,” Fry said. “We've been concentrating on longer runs, even if they are not as long as in past, because this year we expect more pit stops during race. However, we have not ignored our qualifying pace. I am
sure there is more to come on this front, as we learn more about our car and start getting the best out of it.”
Moreover, he said that the competition is very tough in this season. Therefore, they need to keep on making the essential developments in their car so as to compete
well with their main rivals.
Additionally, he expressed immense satisfaction over the design and aerodynamics of F138 and said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the
forthcoming race which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit in China.
He also said that tyre management will play a crucial role in the Chinese GP and they are expecting a strong competition with their major rivals. Let’s see how
they show up in the third round of the season.
