Ferrari announce Sauber driver Sergio Perez will test their 2009 Formula 1 car – Formula 1 news
Ferrari have said that Sauber driver Sergio Perez will test their 2009 Formula 1 F60 car during September 2011.
The Mexican driver is also working for the Ferrari Driver Academy along with Formula 1 racing. He will be seen in action alongside GP2 driver Jules Bianchi in the month of September at Mugello or Fiorano. Bianchi is also a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
FDA director, Luca Baldisserri talked to the media and said, “We will be back on track in September, at Mugello or Fiorano. It will be a very interesting test, because we will be putting Bianchi and Perez up against one another. I think they will both be
very motivated and for us it will be the perfect opportunity to assess both drivers.”
Perez was also a GP2 series driver. However, the Sauber team brought him to Formula 1 racing at the start of 2011, where he tested their C30 car during the winter testing sessions.
The Mexican made his debut in Formula 1 racing in 2011 with the Hinwil-based squad. He made a good start to the 2011 Formula 1 season, as he impressed the viewers with his performance in the initial races.
The youngest F1 driver seemed to be struggling for his best finish on the grid since the start of the season. He is in the 14th position in the 2011 Formula 1 drivers’ championship.
The team admitted that Perez is moving in the right direction and performing well for them.
In the recently held British Grand Prix, he rejoined his team after his crash in the Monaco Grand Prix and scored some decent points for Sauber over there.
Due to the Monaco accident, Perez could not take part in the Monte Carlo Grand Prix. He also missed the next Canadian Grand Prix, as he was not fit enough to race at the Montreal racetrack.
The Swiss team believes the 21-year-old driver will provide encouraging results for them in the remainder of the ongoing season.
The tenth round of 2011 Formula 1 season will be held on July 24, 2011 in Nurburgring.
