Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali says team needs immediate changes – Formula 1 news
Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali says the team needs to upgrade the car and improve as soon as possible to keep their bid for a title win alive.
Ferrari have had troubles since the start of the season with the F2012. The car has had balance problems and technical faults causing the team to be less competitive. Still Fernando Alonso was able to eke out a win at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The win has allowed Ferrari to remain in contention for the highest accolades of the sport, but it does not change the fact that the team lacks competitiveness with the leaders of the grid.
McLaren are clear favourites if there can be any favourites in a season that is very difficult to call for any one team as all the races have been very tightly fought and have had a different Grand Prix winner in each one. Red Bull are close second after
Sebastian Vettel won the Bahrain Grand Prix. Now Lotus have shown that they are not far behind either by filling the second and third places in Bahrain.
Mercedes has shown signs of promise as well as Nico Rosberg went on to secure his first ever Grand Prix win at the Chinese Grand Prix.
This makes Ferrari’s job all the more difficult as other teams already have a heavy advantage over them.
“Clearly we cannot be happy with the way our season began but, after the winter tests, we knew the first four races would be very tough,” he told Ferrari's official website. “We managed to limit the damage, especially in the drivers' championship, in which
Fernando Alonso is fifth, just 10 points off the leader. However, it is equally clear that now we must step up a gear, right from the next race.”
“Our engineers are well aware of this and are working day and night to give our drivers a much more competitive car than we have seen on track in these first four races,” said Domenicali.
He added that the developmental programme for the team is not yet finalised and it is possible that all the updates will not be ready in time for Mugello.
