Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali says they might shift attention towards the 2012 car – Formula 1
Ferrari’s team Boss Stefano Domenicali has said that the Italian team will wait until the Silverstone Grand Prix to decide whether to push upgrades on the 2011 car or shift concentration on the 2012 Formula 1 car.
Domenicali added that Ferrari are in a crucial situation and after the ban on in-season testing sessions, the team has struggled to work well.
Seven of the 19 scheduled races of the 2011 Formula 1 season are over and Domenicali thinks that the championship battle for them might be over soon. He further insisted that previously, a Formula 1 driver had more input in the car and these days, the car
has more to do with the win than the driver.
He explained, “We have to see that Red Bull has built an outstanding car so good that in a victory the car is usually listed first as the winner before the driver. When we dominated, it was always Michael Schumacher first and then Ferrari. Now it's Red Bull
and then Sebastian Vettel.”
Talking about Ferrari hopes in the 2011 Formula 1 season, he said, “Ferrari is at a crucial moment of the season.  In the next races until after the British Grand Prix we will decide whether we continue to push for the world title or work already for the
next season.”
Ferrari’s 2011 season started with many hiccups in pace and reliability. In the first few races, Ferrari’s duo of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa was well out of the championship battle and struggled for pace even against Mercedes.
As the season progressed and Ferrari boosted their performance, their drivers’ performance suddenly slumped.
In the last three races of the ongoing 2011 season, Ferrari could not have a double car finish to the chequered flag. In Spain and Monaco, Massa crashed out and in Montreal, Alonso lost control of his car and ended prematurely.
Alonso is now 92 points behind Sebastian Vettel which prompted Domenicali to think about the 2012 car already.
However, there are still 12 races are to be contested in the season and it will be interesting to see how Ferrari perform.
