The Ferrari team boss, Stefano Domenicali is pleased with the FIA’s decision to lift ban on the team orders. Stefano said that the ban was a “pointless hypocrisy” and should never have been there.
The Ferrari team was fined after the controversial team orders in the German Grand Prix last season. The team sent coded messages to Felipe Massa who allowed his team-mate Fernando Alonso to pass him and win the race.
The FIA has now considered the ban again and decided to lift it. The sports’ governing body feels that the team orders have been there and are a part of the sport therefore there is no point in putting a ban on team orders.
Stefano commented in the removal of the ban, “Finally we have said goodbye to this pointless hypocrisy. For us, Formula 1 is a team sport and we have always maintained that view point and it should be treated as such. The regulations already include provisions
that prevent certain situations being managed in an extreme manner.”
The Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso was in the lead heading in the final race of the season but was unable to capitalise on the lead and lost the title to Sebastian Vettel. The Spaniard lost the title following a bad pit strategy but Stefano Domenicali has
vowed to come back strongly in the next season.
Stefano said that he knows that the team has to start good right away in the next season so that there is no catching up to do like the 2010 season. He said that there will be adjustments to the car which will be revealed at the right time and the team has
to make sure not to repeat the mistakes which were made in 2010.
Although the team orders will be a part of the next season, this can lead to more in-fighting in the teams. The drivers will not like to allow their team-mates passing them to gain championship points as the drivers also compete against each other.
This will make the season more interesting as the teams will have to be very careful and should avoid repeating team orders regularly.
