Ferrari delivers the best pit-stop times of the 2012 season so far – Formula 1 news
Ferrari means business in the current season and they are working hard in all departments to achieve success. The team is at the top of the list when it comes to pit stop times.
Fernando Alonso is the leading driver of the season so far with 164 points and he has surely been helped by his crew’s pit stop times to give him that added time advantage over other teams.
The sport values microseconds and that is why pit crews play a way more important role than they are given credit for.
Auto Motor und Sport has found out that the Italian squad’s tyre-changing crew has remained a touch under two tenths faster than Red Bull the reigning champions.
The improvement in that department is remarkable considering the team was only in the midfields at this stage last year. Mercedes was the team with the fastest pit times in 2011 and are placed fourth in the current year making them three tenths slower than
Ferrari even Force India has done better than Mercedes in the current year who are placed third.
While Ferrari averages better than all the other teams in the season so far, McLaren hold the fastest individual time. The team has invented a better jack mechanism to lift the cars during the pit-stops to change the tyres and have been able to record unbelievable
times.  Yet overall McLaren is placed behind Toro Rosso at sixth place and more than seven tenths slower than Ferrari.
The season has been very competitive throughout and these things will have a greater impact on the results to come as the season has been very tightly fought.
