Ferrari driver Felipe Massa admits that he took help of a psychologist – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has admitted that he took help of a psychologist to improve his performance after head injury in 2009.
Massa has not been able to secure a podium finish since the last two years. Moreover, he has been facing issues with finding his true pace in the start of the current season.
He said that the accident had a strong impact on his mind and it was very hard for him to overcome the deficiency. Nevertheless, he accepted that he has taken help from a psychologist to get back on track after suffering from a severe head injury.
“The bad results influenced the psychological side,” the 31-year-old admitted to the Portuguese language Revista Espn magazine. “I found a psychologist and went through therapy. I will try everything right until the end, because I believe that things will
change.”
He added, “I’m not stupid. I’m tired of thinking about it. Not only did I think about it, I had 45,000 examinations. All the doctors say there is nothing (affecting his performance)”.
It will be important to mention that the Brazilian driver could only score two points in the first five grands prix. Furthermore, he has been surrounded by many speculations that the Scarlet team may replace him due to his uncompetitive performances.
However, he made a convincing comeback in the Monaco GP held at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo in which he secured sixth place finish after qualifying for seventh grid slot.
Later, he struggled in the next two races and could only score one point. Nonetheless, he delivered an impressive performance in the British GP held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8 in which he secured fourth place finish after setting off from the fifth
grid position. Additionally, it has been his best performance in the season so far.
Presently, he is standing at 13th position in the drivers’ championship with 23 points along with Michael Schumacher of Mercedes. Besides, he is 4 points behind Paul di Resta of Force India and just 2 points ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber.
Let’s see how he comes up in the upcoming races.
