Ferrari driver Felipe Massa claims anything can happen after their first 2011 win – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa has recently stated following the team’s first victory of the 2011 Formula 1 season that anything can happen.
“In the last few races our pace in the race was better than in qualifying, while in Silverstone we were quick in both situations. In qualifying, I finished third in Q1 with the hard tyres and that shows that the car is very competitive. I am sure this improvement
will stand us in good stead for the second half of the season,” Massa told the media.
Fernando Alonso secured the win for Ferrari at the British Grand Prix this past weekend at the legendary Silverstone circuit after starting from 3rd place on the grid.
The team secured the win as a result of quick thinking and good race strategy after which Alonso finished the race quite comfortably 16 seconds ahead of the two Red Bull Racing Team drivers.
Other than that, the team has improved its pace massively as the Spaniard’s fastest lap time of the qualifying session of the British Grand Prix was just around a tenth slower than the two Red Bull Racing Team drivers who started from the first row of the
grid but still failed to take the victory.
Massa claims that after experiencing the 2008 and 2007 seasons with Kimi Raikkonen, he now believes that anything is possible at anytime in a Formula 1 season.
“My experience in 2008 and Kimi's in 2007 shows that anything can happen - even if this year will be difficult, because Vettel would have to make a lot of mistakes,” he said.
Besides that, the Brazilian stated that the new rule regarding the stewards is very helpful as well as the stewards are now assisted by a former driver while making their decisions during and after the race.
The upcoming German Grand Prix is going to be quite entertaining as Ferrari are aiming for victories at most of the remaining races in order to squeeze the points’ gap between them and RBR.
