Ferrari driver Felipe Massa fastest at rainy Free Practice 2 of British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa scored the fastest lap time at the second Friday Free Practice session of the British Grand Prix.
It started to rain quite heavily over Silverstone just moments before the session started and despite the inclement weather conditions, the Brazilian managed to score the fastest lap time.
The practice session was pretty boring at first as none of the drivers came out of the pits for around 30 minutes. However, during the last 20 minutes of the session, there was plenty of action on the track but since all of the teams wanted to save their
limited amount of wet tyres for the weekend, it was more like an ‘adjustment’ session rather than a practice session.
Massa was followed by Nico Rosberg’s Mercedes GP in the timesheets but the time difference between them was around a second which clearly indicated how much the rest of the drivers were pushing in the session.
Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi was a further 6 tenths slower while Lewis Hamilton scored the 4th fastest time of the session which was a little disappointing for McLaren as the fans were expecting their home team to score some good results throughout
the race weekend.
However, one has to admit that the team is trying to save its tyres and its performance as well apparently as the track was quite wet almost throughout the session as a result of which it was quite difficult for the drivers to score their desired results.
Jenson Button on the other hand scored the 5th place in the timesheets while Michael Schumacher scored the 12th place. Sebastian Vettel scored the 18th fastest time of the session and his teammate was not much faster either
as Mark Webber scored the 14th place in the timesheets followed by Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in 15th place.
Nevertheless, the ban on off-throttle Blown Diffusers did not show its full effect yet due to the track conditions. As a result, the teams are hoping for a dry final practice session just to get a glimpse of the change in pace as a result of these rule changes.
