Ferrari driver Felipe Massa happy with Canadian Grand Prix practice sessions performance – Formula 1
Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa has said that the practice sessions of the Canadian Grand Prix were his best show of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far.
Not only Massa was able to be among the top four drivers of the two practice sessions but also was able to show some competitiveness in the Ferrari car.
The Brazilian also said that Red Bull and McLaren will be the two teams to watch out for as they might have been sandbagging. Massa was happy about his performance but also said that Friday’s performance is not the one to get carried away with.
He said, “It's always difficult to get a clear picture on Friday, maybe they are waiting to put everything in and be quick tomorrow. The only thing we can say is that it was a Good Friday for us, and now we will wait and see how we compare to Red Bull and
McLaren tomorrow.”
Massa also added that red flags in the sessions hindered their development work and he was unable to gather some useful data on the supersoft tyres.
“There were a lot of red flags so I was not able to use my super-soft tyres. I concentrated on the long runs with fuel. This is a place where there are possibilities to crash, as we saw with some cars,” expressed Massa.
Apart from that, Massa was happy about his performance and said that it was the first Friday session in the 2011 season so far in which he felt confident in the car.
The Brazilian was just fractions slower than his teammate Fernando Alonso which meant that Massa is finding his footing which will be helpful for the team in the constructors’ championship hunt.
The Canadian Grand Prix will be the sixth round of the season and Massa is looking confident to make it close to a podium finish. It will be interesting to see how the Brazilian performs on the semi-street circuit of Montreal on the race day when it matters.
