Ferrari driver Felipe Massa not worried about his future post 2012 – Formula 1 news
Felipe Massa says he is not worried about his future in the sport at the moment.
Massa has been criticised over his poor performances for the last two seasons and especially in the 2011 season.
“To be honest I never drive thinking about my future. I always drive thinking about the best result and thinking about the most important thing which is what I can do on the track. I think when you drive thinking about something else you cannot do your job,”
he said.
Massa could only secure 118 points in the season with best finish of fifth place and no Grand Prix wins. Massa has remained with Ferrari for six seasons and entering the seventh in 2012 and it seems that he may be coming to his tenure’s end.
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo was naturally disappointed over the poor performance of the team in 2011 and called for a much-improved performance in the upcoming season. He has singled out Massa to improve his performance in the upcoming season or
face losing his race seat beyond 2012.
Massa has since said that he has faith in his abilities and is sure to perform in the coming season, but it remains a big possibility that the season will be his last as he will need to do something very substantial to save it.
“I hope we can be like that, but until the first race it is very difficult to know. Last year we were leading many days of testing and then we arrived at the first race and the first qualifying and we were more than a second off. It's really very difficult
to say, we wait to Australia and then we will know,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how Massa performs once the season begins, even if the Brazilian says that he is not thinking about his future at the moment, he definitely knows at the back of his mind. Performance in the coming season is going to be integral
to his future plans, even if he is not able to secure his seat with Ferrari, he will need to perform well enough so that other teams look into acquiring him.
