Ferrari driver Felipe Massa says Silverstone Grand Prix was a big fight – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has said that there was a big fight among the current top-runners of the 2011 Formula 1 season during the British Grand Prix.
Massa especially noted the incident during the race when he failed to pass the McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton in the last corner of the Silverstone race circuit.
Massa was unable to match his car’s pace with teammate Fernando Alonso in the recently held British race weekend. Despite that, he is happy about his team’s solid performance at Silverstone.
The 30-year-old driver was 29 seconds slower behind Alonso in the Silverstone race weekend and ended up at the fifth place behind Hamilton after a close fight with him.
The Brazilian discussed his British Grand Prix and said, “It was definitely a fun finish, but anyway, I couldn’t be in the front, so it was not great. It was a big fight. The biggest problem for me was after the first pit stop, when there was a yellow flag in Turn 6, I took a piece from another car, and it damaged the floor.”
Massa went on to add, “I saw the floor was damaged when I was getting out of the car. I think that was a bit hard for my pace. Now we need to concentrate for the next race. But anyway, Fernando won the race, and it shows that Ferrari can be fast in the second part of the season, and that’s very important.”
The team driver talked to media and mentioned that his pace was hampered due to damage to his car’s floor after running over the debris at the Silverstone race circuit. Massa was looking forward to end up on the podium in the British Grand prix. However, due to having a damaged floor, he could not do that as his car’s pace was not so good enough to help him finish on the podium.
Despite everything, the Maranello-based outfit driver is confident for the next races of the ongoing season.
On the other hand, his teammate Fernando Alonso won the race at Silverstone for the first time in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The two-time world champion had a very great time at the Silverstone race circuit. He took a positive start in the British race weekend, as he successfully finished his Friday Free Practice session on the grid and secured a third place for Sunday’s race.
The team is quite happy with the Spaniard’s performance in Silverstone. However, they are expecting a podium finish from Massa in the upcoming German Grand Prix, which is scheduled to be held on July 24, 2011 in Nurburgring.
Let’s see how Ferrari perform over there following their very strong British Grand Prix.
