Ferrari driver Felipe Massa says Yas Marina is difficult track for overtaking – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has said that he still believes the Abu Dhabi racetrack is difficult for overtaking.
Massa added that he is sure some changes on the track would boost overtaking.
The team driver discussed the Yas Marina Circuit and stated that in his opinion they need to change turn seven a little bit and even make it wider like the Buddh Circuit of India. In addition, he mentioned that overall the track was fine.
Apart from that, the Maranello-based outfit driver added that it was an interesting race in Abu Dhabi and that he enjoyed a lot throughout the race weekend at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The Brazilian talked about the recently held Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and stated that he is sure the racetrack was much better as compared to 2010.
Massa admitted that he was able to fight and overtake Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber, but for some other cars, it was more difficult for him to overtake them.
The 30-year-old driver commented, “In my opinion they need to change a little bit corner seven, maybe even make it wider like in India. Using DRS and everything, I was able to fight and overtake Mark [Webber], but for some other cars it was more difficult
to overtake.”
On the other hand, Red Bull Racing principal Christian Horner subjected the value of the second Drag Reduction System zone for the 2011 Abu Dhabi race after the Grand Prix.
He explained, “I think it was a bit too soft the second one. Mark made a move on Jenson [Button] and it was too easy for him to counter that. It is the sort of thing that can be tidied up for next year, but there was certainly more overtaking than there
was 12 months ago.”
Massa tried his very best to make a lot of progress throughout the Abu Dhabi race weekend for his best possible end in the 2011 Formula 1 season. After starting the Grand Prix from the sixth position on the opening grid, he came at the fifth place at the
end of the race.
Let’s see how Massa performs in the last round of the ongoing season in Brazil.
