Ferrari driver Felipe Massa says accident with Lewis Hamilton was nothing unusual – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa has stated that his incident in the Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton was nothing more than a racing accident.
However, the Brazilian Formula 1 driver stated that he was not happy with the outcome of the race as he managed only a fifth position while his teammate Fernando Alonso won the race.
Massa had to fight with Lewis Hamilton for a fourth place in the Silverstone Grand Prix which the Brazilian did beautifully but lost the battle in the final corner when the Brit squeezed him.
Massa explains the incident, “I was close to Lewis going into the last corner. He went to the inside, I went outside, I went to brake after him and I was able to turn a little bit in front of him and he touched me a little bit. And then in the last corner
I was completely running wide and I had to do an alteration and he was able to put the car inside.”
Although Massa stated that Hamilton was not guilty in the Silverstone accident, he was not happy with the outcome of the race altogether as he had to settle for a fifth position.
Further up the order, Massa’s teammate Fernando Alonso won the race with quite a big margin from the second and third drivers.
Massa stated that hopefully Ferrari will be strong in the second part of the season and will take the fight to Red Bull.
“This race the qualifying was very close and in the race Fernando was better than them. I couldn't be but it was good for the team,” commented Massa.
Ferrari are still third in the constructors’ table but the drivers’ table is somewhat a good picture of Ferrari’s uprising.
Alonso is now third on the table leaving behind the McLaren duo, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
The tenth race of the season will be contested in Germany in two weeks’ time and it will be interesting to see Ferrari’s performance there.
