Ferrari driver Felipe Massa says they are better equipped for Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has said that he is hoping for a promising weekend in Monaco as the team is better equipped and confident about the upcoming race and qualifying session.
Massa was unable to match the pace of his teammate Fernando Alonso who was the fastest driver of the second free practice session on Thursday as the Brazilian was over 6 tenths of a second off the pace.
The team has improved its performance massively and it seems that they are now looking to make amends for their disappointing end to the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend. In Barcelona, Fernando Alonso led the race for around 20 laps but finished in 5th
place in the end over a lap behind Lewis Hamilton and race winner Sebastian Vettel.
Either way, Massa is happy with his result and is hoping to score the best possible results for his team this weekend as he believes that things are different now.
“I am reasonably happy with the car, even if there is still some oversteer, especially with the super-soft. Compared to Barcelona, I reckon we will be better equipped to fight: it's not like on other occasions when it was clear we could not get the tyres
to work,” said Massa.
Other than that, he added that he tried his best to go to the limit on Thursday as a result of which he found himself brushing the barriers 3 times at least.
However, the Brazilian driver believes that overtaking is not going to be as easy as it has been in the first five races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“Overtaking will be difficult, as usual at this circuit: but maybe thanks to the KERS it will be possible to overtake a car that is struggling with its tyres, although it will never be easy,” said the Ferrari driver.
With the Drag Reduction System and Kinetic Energy Recovery System, the Monaco Grand Prix is going to be quite interesting. The qualifying session is going to be very important for each team on Saturday.
