Ferrari driver Felipe Massa worried about tyre strategy at Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team driver Felipe Massa is conscious about the tyre strategy used for the 2011 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Brazilian driver has claimed that the tyre wear out percentage is greater than other tracks. As the drivers have experienced tyre problem during free practice sessions, it is expected that the tyres will be a key factor in the race.
Felipe Massa said, “We got through a lot of work, especially in terms of comparing the two Pirelli tyres. The first signs are that degradation is significant, both on the prime and the option, which will be a decisive factor when it comes to strategy.”
Massa is expecting a tough race day at Budapest as the top five drivers were merely apart by a 0.5 seconds time gap. The Brazilian was lagging a further 0.5 seconds off from Sebastian Vettel who was fifth in the final FP2 time sheet.
Although Massa shred off about two seconds off his FP1’s best shot but still sustained sixth position by the end of the practice day.
Massa further said, “I think we will witness a very close contest between the usual three teams, Red Bull, McLaren and ourselves. It will not be easy to get a useful grid position, but it will be very important to do so, because I think that, despite everything,
overtaking at this track will still be very difficult.”
Ferrari’s Brazilian driver further explained his situation that he was not able to lap fast on super soft compound due his wide run at turn nine. In his opinion, it is not his best shot on the Hungarian venue and he has more potential for the track.
On the other hand, Massa’s teammate Fernando Alonso was fast enough to challenge the McLaren drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Alonso was 0.241 seconds adrift from Hamilton in the final time sheet of the second practice session.
