Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso admires his team’s qualifying strategy at Hockenheim – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has admired his team’s strategy to take a pit stop for tyre change during the qualifying of 2012 German Grand Prix held at Hockenheimring.
Alonso went for a pit stop during the third session of the qualifying and got the new set of wet Pirelli compound tyres which helped him claiming the pole position for the forthcoming race.
The Spaniard performed amazingly well in the rainy conditions and secured his second pole position in this season so far. He said that he is very much pleased with the efforts of his team in the season until now and praised the plan of getting new pair of
tyres which helped him in improving his lap time towards the end of Q3.
“As far as it's the same for everybody, I think sometimes it's good to check circuit conditions as we did Q3 and I think going in to turn six it was not easy for anybody. But everything went well for us, we backed off little bit in those aquaplaning moments
but rest of lap was clean and I think we also made great strategy call making pit stop in Q3 and then having very fresh tyres in last minute when track was in little bit better condition and I think that helped us a lot to improve lap time,” he said.
In addition, he said that he is confidently looking forward to claim victory in the approaching race and is focussing to perform with consistency throughout the upcoming season in order to win the championship title.
The two-time world champion is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 129 points and is ahead of Red Bull Racing pair of drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.
Moreover, he has been deemed as one of the most favourite contenders in this year’s championship as he has successfully limited the damage for the Scarlet team which expected to struggle during the start of the season.
Over and above, he is surely the most favourite driver for the approaching race and it will be very exciting to see how he comes up in the season ahead.
