Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso believes Red Bull Racing are slightly ahead of them – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso believes that Red Bull Racing are slightly ahead of them in terms of performance and insists that they need to push harder to win the 2012 World Championship.
Mark Webber of Red Bull took an amazing victory in the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit and became the second driver to score two race wins in the season so far. Moreover, the Aussie successfully reduced the gap to the front as the leading
driver, Alonso is now just 13 points ahead of him in the drivers’ championship.
Although, the Spaniard has performed remarkably well in the season until now and has been considered as one of the most favourite contenders in this year’s title fight. However, he asserted that the defending champions are still a little bit ahead of them
as they have the most competent car in the field.
In addition, he said that they need to keep on working hard to make the considerable advancements and the substantial developments in order to maintain their lead in the drivers’ rankings.
“It seems that Red Bull are a little bit quicker than everybody else - not for two or three grands prix, I think from Bahrain. They didn't get pole position in Barcelona and in Silverstone, the rest was all Red Bull. So the last six grands prix they have
pole position in the last four or five. So definitely they are a little bit ahead in terms of performance so we need to catch up,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that it extremely difficult to make any kind of predictions about the season ahead as there were seven different winners in the first seven grands prix and positions keep on changing in every race.
Over and above, he said that he is pleased with his performance in the current season so far and is aiming to make his mark stronger in the championship battle.
The Scarlet team is presently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 152 points. Above and beyond, it will be very interesting to see how they come up in the German GP.
