Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso claims they have solved their hard tyre issues – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that his team should not worry about the upcoming British Grand Prix as they have solved their hard tyre issues.
Alonso added even if it does not rain this weekend at Silverstone, the team will be competitive during the race unlike its run during the 2011 Spanish Grand Prix.
“Obviously in dry conditions so far we have had problems with the hard tyres and the medium tyres as well compared to the softs. This is mainly due to the lack of downforce we have in our car, so it's our problem and not the problem of Pirelli,” he
said.
It is expected that it might rain during the qualifying session and the race this weekend. Since the two Free Practice sessions on Friday were also held under wet conditions, it is believed that it might rain during the British Grand Prix. As a result,
the difference in pace after the ban on off-throttle Blown Diffusers might not be as evident as the teams wanted it to be.
Nevertheless, the loss in downforce due to this ban is going to affect each team’s respective performance during wet conditions. However, it seems that McLaren might be strong this weekend as compared to the Red Bull Racing team and Ferrari as the
Woking-based team managed a win in wet conditions at the Canadian Grand Prix after a pretty impressive performance by Jenson Button.
“We have some new aerodynamic parts here which will hopefully improve the downforce of the car so we will be quick. We are pretty sure that the hard tyre can work a little bit better for us and offer better grip. It's something that we need to confirm
on Sunday,” said the Spaniard.
Alonso claims he was unable to try the slick tyres on his Ferrari during the two Free Practice sessions but he claims that the team should not face any issue regarding the tyres and give its best performance whether they have to compete under dry conditions
or wet conditions at Silverstone.
