Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso dominates FP2 of 2011 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso scored the fastest time in a dramatic second free practice session of the 2011 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.
The 90-minute, second practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix was full of incidents.
Red Bull Racing Team’s Sebastian Vettel had a major crash in the first session but since his team had some time to repair his RB7 before the beginning of the second session, the reigning world champion was back on track. He was at it again as he scored the
second fastest time of the session which was around 3 tenths short of Alonso’s fastest time.
Nevertheless, the session was full of incidents as first, Adrian Sutil’s suspension collapsed after his front tyre kissed the wall while exiting turn 7 but fortunately, the Force India driver was able to control his car. As a result, the session was not
disturbed much as he parked his car on the side of the track safely.
Other than that, Kamui Kobayashi slammed into the walls after getting too much of the kerb on turn 4 which caused the first red flag of the session.
After a while, Jerome d’Ambrosio had a similar accident which caused the second red flag of the session. Lewis Hamilton was next in line as his car’s rear tyre was punctured. Due to that, he was unable to score a time on the supersoft tyres for the rest
of the session.
Despite the incidents, Hamilton scored the 4th fastest time of the session following Felipe Massa’s third fastest time which was around 3 tenths faster. The two Mercedes GP drivers were unable to impress as well as they scored the 19th
and 20th positions in the timesheets. Mark Webber also did not have a good day in Montreal as he scored the 7th fastest time of the session.
However, Jenson Button scored the 5th fastest time of the session and so far, it seems that it is a going to be a very close competition between McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing Team this weekend both during the qualifying session and the
race.
