Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso feels happy after Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso said that he is very happy with the progress they have made in the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit this week.
The Spaniard said that they have launched some of the updates in the test regarding the aerodynamics of F2012 which have come up to their expectations. He also said that he is feeling positive for the season ahead.
“I am very pleased with these three days of testing,” he added. “The feeling I have after the test is a positive one. We have introduced a few small, and I stress that word, aerodynamic updates, that have produced the response we were expecting and that
is the most positive news, which means I am confident for the future, in the short and the long term.”
Furthermore, he said that the developments on which they have been working on in the team’s factory in Maranello have been confirmed in the Mugello test. In addition, he said that they have focused on other areas too which include the assessment of a new
clutch and the tyre management in short and long runs on track.
Besides, he said that they have been planning to come up with the major updates in Barcelona with a hope to reduce the gap with the rivals in the front.
The two-time world champion is presently at fifth place in the drivers’ championship with 43 points. Moreover, he is 8 points ahead of the German driver, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
In the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia, he secured an impressive fifth position after starting the race from 12th grid position.
Later, in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, he took an amazing victory on wet track after setting off from 8th place in the grid.
Conversely, he struggled in the third and fourth race in which he could only secure 9th and 7th place finishes while he qualified for 9th grid position in both the races.
Although, during the start of the season, the Italian team asserted that they will face difficulties in the first few Grands Prix.
However, they have performed quite convincingly in the races until now as they stand at fourth place in the constructors’ rankings with 45 points ahead of Mercedes. Additionally, they are hopefully looking forward to perform well in the approaching season.
