Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso happy with second position finish in German Grand Prix – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is happy with his podium finish in the German Grand Prix held on Sunday, July 24, 2011.
Alonso also mentioned that his second position in the Nürburgring race weekend was a fantastic achievement for him in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far.
The Spaniard, who was the winner of the previous British Grand Prix, has finished his Nürburgring race at the second place after making a lot of struggle. Alonso was almost four seconds slower than McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, who was the winner of the German
Grand Prix. After a fight with Red Bull driver Mark Webber, the Ferrari driver successfully ended his race on the podium in Germany.
Talking to the reporters, Alonso said, “With three different rules, three different maps, we were constantly first and second on three different circuits and with different temperatures, so with all these conditions we saw consistency that put us in a good
position to enjoy this final part of the championship.”
The 29-year-old driver discussed with the media that he had a tough start to the Nürburgring race weekend because of low track temperature and that he struggled on both the hard and soft tyres during the Friday Free Practice sessions.
In addition, he stated that he secured a fourth place for Sunday’s race that was not satisfactory for him. However, he said he worked really hard during the German Grand Prix and put his all of his efforts during that. He said he was thankful to higher temperature
of the racetrack and the Pirelli soft tyres, which played an important role for his best finish on the German grid.
The Maranello-based outfit driver went on to add, “I am looking forward to a bit more temperature on the track. The soft and super soft tyre should be an advantage for us in terms of how we take on the tyres. In a week we will have a very interesting weekend
again.”
He appreciated the performance of the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton, who put a positive step forward towards their success in the 2011 Formula 1 championship in Germany.
Let’s see how Alonso performs in the Hungarian Grand Prix set to take place on July 31, 2011.
