Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso leads the pack after FP2 of the Valencia Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso scored the best lap time for the 2nd free practice session of the European Grand Prix in Valencia on Friday.
The Spaniard led the session ahead of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton who was just around 2 tenths of a second short of the fastest time of the session while the current championship leader Sebastian Vettel was a further tenth down the order in 3rd place.
Alonso was able to score this fastest lap despite the fact that he had a major tyre lock-up while crossing the final corner during that lap. The top seven drivers of the session were divided by just 5 tenths of a second and once again, Michael Schumacher
of Mercedes impressed with his fourth place in the timesheets after having a great weekend in the previous Canada Grand Prix recently.
He was followed by Felipe Massa in 5th while Jenson Button and Mark Webber finished the session in 6th and 7th places in the timesheets respectively.
Other than the usual lap times, Sergio Perez was once again back on track for the practice session and it seems that he might not get replaced by Pedro de la Rosa for this race as he was feeling fine.
The drivers kept complaining about the grip level of the track though as they claim that they struggled to control their respective cars as they had planned to. Fernando Alonso struggled to perform at his best while Sergio Perez and his teammate Kamui Kobayashi
were unable to find grip on the track as well as their respective cars skidded all over the track.
Nico Rosberg had a pretty disappointing session as he finished in 8th place while the two Lotus Renault GP drivers Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov finished in 9th and 10th places respectively.
It seems that the pace was pretty much the same for all the teams but it is going to be quite interesting how the teams perform at the final practice session before the qualifying session to evaluate the whole situation completely.
