Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso not expecting a 2011 Formula 1 title despite British Grand Prix win
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is not thinking about the 2011 Formula 1 season title despite his recent British Grand Prix win.
Alonso mentioned that despite his win in Silverstone, he is still far away from Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel with a gap of 92 points in the drivers’ championship.
The Spaniard told the media that the team will try to win as many races in the remainder of the season as possible without thinking about winning the 2011 title.
The Maranello-based outfit driver had a great weekend in Silverstone recently, where he took a positive start and finished his race in the top spot. He won his first race of the ongoing 2011 season at the Silverstone race circuit. The race results were very
impressive for the team, however Ferrari are expecting from Alonso that he will retain his current position in the upcoming race weekends of the season.
After the race, Alonso admitted that his car’s pace was good during the race and that the Ferrari’s new car gave him a lot of support to finish his best run on the grid in Silverstone.
The two-time world champion discussed the British Grand Prix and said, “Each race has its own story and we know only too well how much things can change when you go from one track to another. There were definitely some major improvements on the car, which
mean it feels much easier to drive now and you can feel it much more stuck to the ground than before, especially in the fast corners.”
The 29-year-old driver went on to mention, “That means it's got more aerodynamic downforce, which was the area where we trailed our main rivals the most.”
After a successful British Grand Prix, Ferrari are hoping for another positive race weekend in the upcoming German Grand Prix that will be held on July 24, 2011 in Nurburgring.
Let’s see how Alonso performs over there following his strong Silverstone race.
