Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso optimistic about 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that after the 2011 Abu Dhabi race that he is looking forward to the last round of the 2011 Formula 1 season, which will be held on November 27 in Brazil.
Alonso added that he wants to win the Brazilian race and start thinking of 2012 Formula 1 season as soon as possible.
He also mentioned that is fact they made good improvements in the ongoing season in terms of performance as compared to last year, but they have been unable to fight for the 2011 championship until the mid of the season.
Apart from that, the Spaniard talked about the Abu Dhabi race and stated that he tried hard throughout the race and that it was an individual race, which was against time.
Talking to reporters, Alonso commented, “I was doing qualifying laps every lap trying to close the gap but it was one tenth up or down for the whole stint and we dominated. About the people we were catching, when he had some problems I closed the gap to
two seconds and when I had problems I lost two seconds - it depended on which parts of track you caught them.”
He went on to mention, “Definitely next year is a good challenge for us - and a big motivation for next year is to do better than 2011.”
The two-time world champion further added that the whole weekend was like a qualifying round, as he did every lap of the race in order to close the gap.
The Maranello-based outfit driver started the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from the fifth position at the Yas Marina Circuit and after trying his best, he ended up in the second position.
He was 8.4 seconds off the pace of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and after running on the sets of soft and medium tyres by Pirelli, he finished the race ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button.
After completing 18 rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, Alonso is placed at the third position with 245 points in the 2011 drivers’ standings.
Let’s see how Alonso manages the last race of the season in Brazil that is scheduled to be held in two weeks’ time.
