Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso satisfied with 2011 season – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is satisfied with the 2011 Formula 1 season following his disappointing start to the championship.
Alonso talked to the media and said that he feels proud by making much progress after the mid of the ongoing season for the team.
The Spaniard added that he is pleased by managing one race victory for Ferrari in the season so far at the 2011 British Grand Prix.
The Maranello-based outfit driver did not have a strong start to the season, as his car was not so supportive in the initial stages.
He picked up the pace in the mid of the season and won the race at the British Grand Prix for the team.
Alonso commented, “I have managed to finish in the top three in over half the races I have driven for Ferrari, This shows that even in a year like this, which has not been so fantastic, in terms of our car’s performance, the average level is still very high.
It’s not by chance that over the last eighteen years, the Scuderia has managed to win at least one grand prix per season.”
The former world champion went on to mention, “No other team can say the same and factors like this also influenced my decision to extend my contract with Ferrari for such a long time.”
The team driver has a contract with Ferrari until the end of 2016 and he believes that he can surely step on to the podium many more times in the future.
In the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Alonso finished the race on the podium. After starting from the fifth position at the Yas Marina Circuit, he ended up in the second position for Ferrari.
Alonso finished 18 rounds of the season so far for Ferrari and now, he is placed at the third position with 245 points in the 2011 drivers’ standings.
He has a gap of 10 points from McLaren’s Jenson Button, who is at the second position in standings at the moment. Alonso still has a chance to take second position at the end of championship.
Let’s see how he manages the last round of the 2011 Formula 1 season at Brazil this weekend.
