Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says Canadian Grand Prix will be very interesting – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix will very interesting, as the double Drag Reduction System zones will be allowed to the teams at the Montreal racetrack.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) confirmed ahead of the Montreal race that the participating teams can use the DRS device twice in every lap of the Canadian Grand Prix- first time at the tip of Turn 10 and the second time on the pit straight.
The team driver added that it will be interesting to see how the teams avail the overtaking chances on both the straights.
Apart from that, he discussed the new Pirelli tyres and said that it is impossible that drivers will take only one stop in the Montreal race. He added that they will again have to use the supersoft and soft compounds in Canada after the recently held Monaco
race.
The 29-year-old driver said, “Even though the Pirellis are different to the Bridgestones, I don’t think we will see anyone manage to get to the end of the race with only one tyre change, as we saw in Monaco. As we have seen this year, it will be important
to pick the right moment for the pit stop.”
The two-time world champion also discussed his 2010 Canadian GP performance and said, “Last year I managed to make the podium but we left Montreal with a definite sensation of having deserved more than our eventual third place. There were a couple of episodes
that didn’t go well for us that prevented us from picking up the win that was within our reach.”
Alonso talked about his Monaco race progress and continued that he had a good chance to win the race until the end of the Monte Carlo race. However, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel had a better pace and he beat him during the closing laps of the race. Due to
that, Alonso could not win and ended second on the podium.
After the Monaco race, Alonso is hoping for a better Canadian Grand Prix. Let’s see how he manages his race in Montreal.
