Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says Monza will be another close battle against rivals – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that the 2011 Monza race will be another close battle against his current rivals, which included Red Bull Racing, McLaren and Ferrari.
Alonso also mentioned that they have to be perfect in Monza if they want to be on top in the upcoming Italian Grand Prix, which will begin from September 09, 2011 at the Monza racetrack.
The team driver talked to the media and stated that at the moment Ferrari are aiming to do some extra effort during the Italian Grand Prix.
The Spaniard commented, “There is a special motivation this weekend for all of us. The mechanics and engineers have their families in the grandstands here in Monza. There is extra care in the things we do and we want everything to be perfect from practice
to Sunday. This year, there are seven races to go. We want to win races, no doubt, but we are also very realistic.”
Alonso went on to mention, “We know we were not very competitive in the last grand prix and the updates in the cars will be minimal from all the teams now so we will all remain similar so it will be track-to-track and luck.”
The 30-year-old driver told the media that the Maranello-based outfit worked really hard after the 2011 Belgium Grand Prix and tried to make their car more competitive for the last seven races as well.
The Ferrari driver added that they want everything perfect from the Friday Free Practice sessions to Sunday’s race. He said they still have seven races remaining in the season and they have to fight well in Monza in order to have any chances of 2011 championship.
Ferrari are still realistic about their 2011 championship, despite winning only one race in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far.
After taking part in 12 rounds of the ongoing season, Alonso is sitting at the third position with 157 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship following his disappointing start to the season.
The team driver is looking forward to their better results in Italy. Let’s see how he manages his race at the Monza racetrack this weekend following his fourth position in the Spa race weekend.
