Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says a win will come soon in the 2011 Formula 1 season
Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso has stated that a win is around the corner for the Scarlet team in the 2011 season.
The Spaniard stated that Ferrari have done an exceptional job to close down the gap to the Red Bull team in terms of pace. Alonso added that the Pirelli tyres to be used for the Silverstone Grand Prix are also a bit of a challenge for the Scarlet team.
Alonso added that although the team will bring some new parts for the Silverstone race to improve the aerodynamic capability of the car still there is long way to go to prove a point against Red Bull.
The Spaniard came second in the Valencia Grand Prix recently taking out the Red Bull of Mark Webber and lapping faster than Sebastian Vettel. However, the Spaniard is still way back in the championship points.
Alonso stated, “We must be realistic and accept that it's not possible that in less than two months - the time past since the Barcelona race - we have closed the gap that was seen at the Catalunya circuit. We must continue to work on improving the car and
then I am sure the win will come. When? I don't have a crystal ball to be able to give a definite answer.”
The Spaniard added that the Pirelli tyres to be used in Silverstone are also a question mark for the Scarlet team.
He said, “For us that means one more challenge, namely being able to make all types of tyre work as well as possible.”
Ferrari improved their performance in the previous three races where the Pirelli supersoft and soft tyres were used due to the nature of the circuit. However, in the previous races of the season, Ferrari struggled on the Pirelli hard tyres.
Nevertheless, Ferrari are way down in the championship battle in the 2011 Formula 1 season. Let’s see how they fare at the Silverstone circuit next weekend on July 10, 2011.
