Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says he does not rue past performances – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso says that he is positive over his chances of winning championships driving with Ferrari.
Alonso expressed that the does not have any regrets over his previous performances and is always looking ahead. The Spaniard did not end up in the top three of the constructors’ championship during the 2011 season but held on to 4th place which is a strong
showing considering the Ferrari car was not as competitive as it should have been compared to the dominating Red Bull and McLaren cars.
When the conditions suited the Ferrari car Alonso made sure that he took full advantage of it. During the British Grand Prix, it was rainy conditions and temperatures were low and Alonso using the conditions to his advantage won his first and only Grand
Prix of the season.
Alonso joined Ferrari in 2010 and straight away performed very well during the season. At the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, Alonso required only to finish 5th to secure a drivers’ title for the season, but a tactical error during the race saw him
getting stuck behind Vitaly Petrov. There were no DRS zones during the 2010 season and Alonso was not able to overtake Petrov and finished 7th losing out on the title by only 4 points. Sebastian Vettel went ahead to win the title for Red Bull.
The Ferrari driver said that he does dwell on his past performances too much, and is optimistic that championships will come for him in the future.
“I don't think about it too much,” Alonso told Autosport. “I know that I could have more championships, but you can't move forward by looking back - you need to look at the future and the present. I'm totally confident that this championship will come soon.”
“I have more motivation than ever, so it only needs time. Hopefully not many more years because, as you said, I'm 30 - at the moment I'm at the peak of my career, and I'm in the best team. I don't have any doubts that championships will arrive,” he further
added.
It would be interesting to see how Alonso performs in the 2012 season with an updated Ferrari car.
