Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says he feels as strong as ever – Formula 1 news
The two-time former world champion Fernando Alonso has said that he is feeling as strong as ever despite the fact that he is currently in 4th place over 80 points adrift of championship leader Sebastian Vettel.
“We still lack a little something in all areas, including from the drivers, to be at the level of the best. However, I feel much more part of the team than I did a year ago. In terms of driving, I don't think I've ever been this strong,” said Alonso.
Alonso had a fantastic run in the 2010 Formula 1 season as well as he led the championship until the very final race of the season but since he lost the final race to Vettel, he was unable to retain that lead and win the title.
The team was quite strong back then either as Felipe Massa was unable to score any good results for the team as a result of which, they were way behind McLaren and Red Bull Racing team in the constructors’ standings in terms of points.
However, reports suggest that Lewis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel might join Ferrari in the near future which for Alonso is not a surprise as most of the drivers want to drive for a team like Ferrari which is consistent and fast.
“It seems a normal thing to say: all drivers want to race for Ferrari. Some might say it openly, others deny it even if they are thinking it. For my part, it makes me feel even more privileged, because I am at Ferrari now and I will be for many years to
come, at least to the end of 2016,” he said.
Nevertheless, the Spaniard still has a shot at the title as he is in a strong position and since Ferrari are improving, he is performing competitively and is a potential race winner at each venue.
If Vettel retires out of a couple of races in the near future, then Alonso might have a chance of winning the title but if that is not the case, then it seems quite difficult for him.
