Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says he is ready for upcoming Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
The two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso of Ferrari has said that he is ready for the challenge ahead of him this weekend at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Alonso finished in 4th place at the season opening Australian Grand Prix followed by a 6th place finish at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
“There is not much time to change cars so I expect difficult pace, a difficult weekend again. The race is long. We arrive in China knowing that it will be difficult but we will have some opportunities if we do things right. We need to keep working in a good
direction as we did [in Malaysia],” said Alonso.
Alonso is yet to score a podium position but he is quite optimistic about the upcoming race, as he believes that the team is heading towards improvement rather than deterioration.
“In Australia we were not quick enough in qualifying, [and] in the race we were struggling a lot and were 40-50 seconds behind the leader. I left Sepang much more happy because we were fighting with them. We did not expect to be fighting with them, so there
is a very positive atmosphere now in the team,” said the Spaniard.
After the pre-season test sessions’ results, it was believed that Ferrari would be one of the top running teams of the sport once again but after the first two races, it seems that they are still facing some issues due to which they have not been able to
do well.
After the first two races of the 2011 season, McLaren and Red Bull are way ahead of the rest of the pack in terms of pace. However, Ferrari have high hopes for the rest of the season as they are applying new upgrades to their car which might help them perform
better in the Chinese Grand Prix.
The third race of the 2011 season will take place in Shanghai this Sunday, 17 April, 2011.
