Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says it is not going to be easy for Ferrari to win races – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that the team’s chances of winning races in the near future are quite low before claiming that he is currently in the best form of his career.
“At the moment, it's difficult to win a race. There is no doubt that in Monaco and Canada we had the opportunity to win the race - that is fact, it's not a dream. We were very close, we were 10cm from winning in Monaco. The last two races the trend is quite
good and we have improved and seem to be competitive,” Alonso told the media.
The team has been unable to secure a single victory up until now as they have been unable to perform consistently. With only one podium scoring driver in the team, Ferrari have not been able to cope up with the two top running teams of the sport in the constructors’
standings. However, Fernando Alonso has been performing well as he is currently in 5th place in the drivers’ standings and has secured 2 podiums.
Even in 2010, Alonso led the championship until the very last race but this year, the Spaniard is currently 92 points adrift of the current championship leader Sebastian Vettel. Overtaking Vettel seems impossible until or unless the two-time Formula 1 champion
pulls off a miracle.
Keeping that in mind, Alonso still claims that he drove the “best 7 races of his career” this season.
“We need to have the best car. If we have the best car we can win the title, there is plenty of time, plenty of races to recover. We need to try and win every race we go to, sometimes it is impossible, but that is our aim,” he added.
Nevertheless, Alonso added that the team can still recover as the season is far from over yet while his team claims that they will shift their focus to the 2012 Formula 1 season if they are unable to perform well until the end of July.
