Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says their pace was expected at German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
After the Friday practice sessions for the German Grand Prix which took place at the Nurburgring, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso stated that the team’s improvements were expected as they have been ascending in terms of performance and their car had a lot of pace.
“That result was down to the many improvements introduced race after race, as could be seen from the fact that, even from Monaco, we had returned to a good level in terms of being competitive and here too, where we are back to the Valencia rules, we are
at the front end of the field,” said Alonso.
Alonso secured the 2nd fastest time at the second free practice session which was just 1 tenth slower than the fastest lap time of the session scored by Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber.
The Spaniard secured the victory at the British Grand Prix which clearly proved that Ferrari also have the capability of beating Red Bull and their pace is much faster than even McLaren’s during the qualifying sessions.
The team’s performance this Friday did not surprise Fernando at all as he claims that it was a usual Friday practice day for the team.
“A normal sort of Friday just like any other. First impressions from the car are good, which confirms that we are working in the right direction. I've said it before; it's not a case of a miracle having happened at Silverstone, because of the regulations
relating to the exhausts,” he said.
Other than that, Fernando Alonso stated that the temperature in Germany suits Red Bull more than McLaren and Ferrari as the weather has been quite cold.
This weekend’s German Grand Prix is extremely important for Ferrari and McLaren as the results after this race are going to affect the future of both of these teams and clear things even more about the future of the 2011 Formula 1 championship.
Vettel is currently dominating the 2011 Formula 1 season but one has to admit that the championship is far from over yet.
