Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says they lack ‘something’ in qualifying – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that his team still lacks ‘something’ in qualifying but still did not put his finger on exactly what they require at the moment for improvement.
“We still lack something, especially in qualifying: it's true that in the race we can make up for this, but it's not always possible to move up two places compared to our grid position, as happened in Monaco, Valencia, Silverstone and Nurburgring,” he said.
Alonso recently secured the 2nd place for his team at the German Grand Prix before which he won his first race of the 2011 Formula 1 season at the British Grand Prix. This clearly shows that the team has improved its race pace immensely as they
were nowhere near McLaren or Red Bull Racing at the beginning of the season but now, they are even capable of defeating them.
“We have made up a lot of ground compared to the very early part of the season in terms of performance, but we must take a further step forward, as I have said so often before,” Alonso told the media.
However, he added that he believes in his team and that they have the capability to score even better results at the upcoming races.
The next race the Hungarian Grand Prix is expected to take place this coming weekend and with just a week’s break, it seems that Ferrari or as a matter of fact, any of the teams might not have much time to introduce some upgrades.
Alonso claims that the weather should be dry as he has had ‘enough’ of the rainy experiences following the German and the British Grand Prix. Since Ferrari have the car which is capable of performing very well in both conditions, it seems that weather is
not going to be a problem for them.
However, weather does play a major role in terms of race strategy and at the Hungaroring, Ferrari would want a more predictable and ‘clean’ race in order to achieve their goals as they are well aware of their capabilities now.
