Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso thinking about winning at each race – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has recently stated that he is focused on winning at each venue now as he believes that the team goes to each race with the intention of winning and that is what Ferrari are all about.
“Ferrari cannot go to races not thinking about winning. But we are realists and know how difficult it is. We need Vettel to have failures,” he told the media.
The only way he can win the championship is if he wins almost every race out of the remaining 2011 Formula 1 season and if the current championship leader Sebastian Vettel does not finish at least a couple of races.
That is quite unlikely to happen since Red Bull Racing team is going pretty good and consistent and Vettel has not retired from a single race up until now in the 2011 Formula 1 season which is quite impressive.
With just 8 races remaining, all the reigning world champion has to do is finish on the podium at each venue in order to take the championship which at the moment is pretty much his.
But still, anything is possible in Formula 1 and Alonso insists that Ferrari are not giving up that easily.
“Of course we can catch them (Red Bull). The rules have changed, the blown diffusers will be forbidden, so the philosophy in the development and in the wind tunnel has to change. I have noticed more desire and general optimism, more speed in decision-making,
more courage in the development. Yes, we have improved the structure and how we work,” said Alonso.
Ferrari are going to go have to perform more consistently like a team which they have failed to do since the 2010 Formula 1 season as Felipe Massa has not been able to cope up with the team’s pace after returning to the sport.
It is quite disappointing for Alonso and the team as they do not get to challenge for the constructors’ title at all but since the Spaniard still has a shot at the drivers’ title this year, the team has not lost hope yet.
