Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far
Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso is currently driving for Ferrari in the 2011 Formula 1 season. He is in a competitive form at the moment following his disappointed start in the ongoing season.
The Spaniard made his debut in Formula 1 with the Minardi F1 team in 2001. He was the youngest F1 driver who won two consecutive world championships in his Formula 1 career in the past.
He joined Ferrari in 2010, where he took part in 19 races over the season with them. He successfully finished his first F1 season with the Maranello-based outfit at the second place in the championship battle.
After completing the 2011 pre-season test session on the different Formula 1 tracks, the two-time world champion started his season with hopes of getting a lot from the initial races of the season. But due to lack of his car’s pace he could not do that.
Alonso took a below par start to the ongoing season, as he finished his first race in the fourth place at the Australian racetrack after struggling on the new 2011 Pirelli tyres.
The team driver was again unable to perform well on the grid in the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix after the Australian GP. He started his Sepang race from the fifth place and ended up in the sixth spot for the team.
In the next Chinese Grand Prix, the 30-year-old driver failed to gather his strong performance on the grid among the competitive rivals due to an unsupportive role of his 150° Italia car. He also blamed the hard compounds of tyres for his seventh place finish
in the Shanghai race, as he said that these compounds did not provide him an easy run over the race weekend.
The 2011 Turkish Grand Prix proved as lucky for Alonso, as he finished his race on the last stair of the podium for the first time in the ongoing season after struggling a lot on the hard tyres by Pirelli.
In the following grand prix, the Spaniard was again slow on the grid during the Spanish race and ended up at the fifth place ahead of Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher.
The Maranello-based outfit driver bounced back on the grid in the Monaco Grand Prix, where he came at the second place for his team after starting from the fourth place on the opening grid.
The Canadian Grand Prix proved as unlucky for Alonso, as he retired from the race after completing 36 laps due to an accident.
He had a trouble-free race in the European Grand Prix, where he scored decent points for the team and finished his race at the second place.
He won a race for the first time in the 2011 formula 1 season at the British Grand Prix. He started his race from the third place in the opening grid and ended up ahead of other drivers at the Silverstone racetrack.
In the tenth round of the ongoing season, Alonso could not retain his top position at the German racetrack, as the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton was faster as compared to him and finally won the German Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver finished his race in
the second spot in Germany.
Alonso was at the third place in the Hungarian Grand Prix after starting his race from the fifth place on the opening grid.
After getting very positive results from the last few races of the season, he is looking forward to successful upcoming races of this season.
Let’s see how he performs in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
