Ferrari driver academy says Perez often suffers due to his aggressive driving style – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver academy head, Luca Baldisserri has said that Sergio Perez of Sauber often suffers and loses points in the race because of his extremely aggressive driving on track.
Perez has emerged as an amazing talent after he secured second podium finish in the Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International Circuit in rainy conditions and followed the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari after setting off from 9thgrid position.
In addition, he delivered an incredible performance in the Canadian GP held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal and secured an impressive third podium finish.
Moreover, it will be important to mention that there have been a lot of speculations about the replacement of Felipe Massa with Perez. However, the team principal of the Scarlet team, Stefano Domenicali dismissed all the rumours and said that they are ready
to provide the Brazilian driver with everything which he may need in order to improve his performance.
On the other hand, Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo said that Perez still needs more experience and better outcomes before being considered as a potential replacement of Massa.
In contract, although Baldisserri admitted that Perez has got an inspiring talent in him, however, he said that the Mexican driver often loses crucial points due to his too aggressive racing style.
“After Monaco, we had a discussion with Sergio,” Baldisserri said. “We wanted to find out why recent results had not lived up to expectations after the Malaysian Grand Prix. Perez is undoubtedly talented, but he often lets himself down by being too aggressive
which, especially in Formula 1, does not deliver results. The Montreal race was a great response, a race in which Sergio not only ran at a great pace, but also managed his race very well, managing to stay on track for fifty laps on the same set of tyres.”
At present, Perez is standing at ninth place in the drivers’ championship with 37 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and behind Jenson Button of McLaren.
Over and above, he is confidently looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming season.
